OK, Here it is my first blog. Several months ago when the editors at the newspaper told us we would be going on-line with our thoughts and opinions I was really excited. What better way to get out my “original” ideas and expressions — hence the name for my blog, plus anyone who knows me knows I can be opinionated from time to time.
If you haven’t figured it out by now— I plan on writing about women’s issues. The topics will range from the light-hearted to the more serious. I will talk about the struggles of working and juggling family, women in the news, domestic chores (some of us like it more than others,) fashion and much more.
So for starters I want to start soft.
It’s television premiere week and I’ve only watched a few shows and nothing has really captured me. But then again Ugly Betty doesn’t air until Thursday. I am actually looking forward to the new season. Last year I watched most of the episodes on-line at www.abc.com because I have a lot going on and could watch it as my convenience.
This past weekend ABC Family ran an Ugly Betty marathon, which was on in the background as I cleaned house.
When a friend stopped by, who had never watched the show before, he commented how ugly she was — duh! That’s the whole point, I told him the show was about Betty’s inner-beauty and her struggles with how society judges people based on appearances.
There are real women out there like Betty, they don’t care what people think. They are comfortable with who they are and live life everyday. I applaud those women, because they already know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder or the fact that people who comment about what others look like are really insecure about themselves.
Cynthia, I’m so glad you are writing about women’s issues…REAL women’s issues. Too often women are told what to think, how to dress, how to act, blah, blah, blah. It will be a refreshing change to get a unrehearsed, unvarnished and unfiltered perspective. I welcome your blogs and I will be checking them out.
Oops…I meant AN unrehearsed, unvarnished and unfiltered perspective. Sorry about the typo.
Hey Cindy I like your new blog. Unfortunately I have never been able to get into the “Ugly Betty” show.
You need a better picture, you are soooo much better looking than that one.
I am rarely home to watch tv, so I have never watched Ugly Betty. I too am glad you are writing about women’s issues.
What I really hate, is that if a women says something they are smiled at and listened to but if a man says the same thing, then it has merit. Then we have to get really assertive just to prove we do have a brain. It takes a real man not to be intimidated by a strong woman. Whee, now don’t I feel better.
Love, the Rosie the Riveter.
PS I think this area needs a bank established and run by women, for women.
